Steven P. Millies

Associate Professor of Public Theology and Director of The Bernardin Center for Theology and Ministry
B.A., Loyola University Chicago; M.A., Ph.D., The Catholic University of America

Steve Millies studied political theory and the relationship between religion and modernity at The Catholic University of America, receiving his master's degree and doctorate in 1997 and 2003, respectively.  Before coming to CTU, he was an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of South Carolina Aiken, where he held the J. Strom Thurmond Endowed Chair in Political Science.

He has written about the role of the Catholic church in the United States by engaging thinkers such as John Courtney Murray, Jacques Maritain, and Cardinal Joseph Bernardin.  He is the author of Joseph Bernardin:  Seeking Common Ground (Liturgical Press, 2016), and he has written for several periodicals and journals including AmericaCommonweal, and the National Catholic Reporter.  His next book, Good Intentions:  A History of Catholic Voters' Road from Roe to Trump, is due from Liturgical Press in 2018.
